Whether it be ski boots, sand & gravel from the driveway or snow drenched clothing and shoes, it is important that your entry or mudroom floor is durable and can handle the elements. A couple different types of flooring options available for mudrooms include:
- Indoor / Outdoor carpet – Indoor / Outdoor carpet is durable and is designed to handle moisture. Some of the flooring has a rubber backing for those particularly wet areas. It is suitable for areas that are not heated.
- Tile – Porcelain Tile or Natural Stone are the most durable types of flooring for heavy traffic areas. While natural stone has to be periodically sealed to protect the surface from moisture spots, both floors are durable and many have sufficient non-slip texture perfect for wet areas. It should be noted that if tile is installed in a non-heated space, it should be installed with special mortar products and should be a product that is frost resistant.
- Vinyl – Vinyl flooring is a good economical flooring option for entries and mudrooms as it generally is easy to clean and can withstand modest amounts of moisture. Vinyl products are not warrantied in no-heat environments.
